Over the past few years, Greensboro Pride has undergone a transformation that reflects not only the growth of our organization, but the strength, resilience, and visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community we serve. What began as a single-day celebration has evolved into a year-round movement rooted in advocacy, inclusion, and community building. In 2026, that evolution reaches a historic milestone with the debut of the first-ever Greensboro Pride Parade.
At the heart of this growth is IMPAQT GSO, the organization behind Greensboro Pride. Formerly known as Alternative Resources of the Triad, IMPAQT GSO has intentionally redefined its identity to better reflect its mission: to create safe, inclusive, and equitable spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals across the Triad. This shift was more than a name change. It marked a renewed commitment to impact, visibility, and long-term sustainability.
A Strengthened Organization
Over the last two years, IMPAQT GSO has expanded both structurally and strategically. The board has grown into a more robust and dynamic body, bringing together leaders with expertise in nonprofit governance, event planning, community engagement, and advocacy. New committees have been formed to support operations, including governance, compliance, logistics, programming, and partnerships. This intentional structure has allowed the organization to scale responsibly while maintaining accountability and transparency.
This growth has also strengthened our ability to build meaningful partnerships. From local businesses and universities to national brands and healthcare systems, our network of supporters continues to expand. These partnerships are not just financial. They represent a shared investment in creating a more inclusive Greensboro.
Beyond a Festival: Year-Round Impact
While the Greensboro Pride Festival remains our flagship event, IMPAQT GSO’s work extends far beyond a single day in September. Over the past few years, we have increased our year-round programming to better serve the community. This includes social events, professional networking opportunities, advocacy initiatives, and collaborations with local organizations.
These efforts are grounded in a simple but powerful belief: visibility matters, but sustained support matters even more. Creating spaces where LGBTQIA+ individuals feel seen, safe, and connected is essential to building a healthier and more inclusive community.
The Growth of Greensboro Pride
The Greensboro Pride Festival itself has seen unprecedented growth. Attendance has surged, with tens of thousands of people gathering each year to celebrate. Vendor participation has expanded, entertainment has scaled, and the overall footprint of the event has grown significantly.
But with that growth came an important question: what’s next?
The answer became clear. It was time to take the next step in visibility, celebration, and community pride.
A Historic Milestone: The First-Ever Greensboro Pride Parade
In 2026, Greensboro Pride will make history with the introduction of its first-ever parade. This moment is not just an addition to the event. It is a reflection of how far we have come.
Parades are powerful. They take visibility out of contained spaces and bring it into the heart of the city. They create moments of joy, solidarity, and recognition that extend beyond the LGBTQIA+ community and into the broader public. For Greensboro, this parade represents progress, visibility, and a bold statement that our community belongs, thrives, and leads.
The parade will serve as the official kickoff to Pride Day, flowing directly into the festival and creating a full-day experience that is more dynamic, inclusive, and impactful than ever before.
Why This Matters
The work of IMPAQT GSO and Greensboro Pride is about more than celebration. It is about creating a community where people feel safe to be who they are. It is about advocating for equity, amplifying voices that have historically been marginalized, and building connections that strengthen the fabric of our city.
At a time when LGBTQIA+ communities across the country continue to face challenges, spaces like Greensboro Pride are not just important, they are essential. They provide visibility, affirmation, and a sense of belonging that can be life-changing.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate 20 years of Greensboro Pride in 2026, we are not just honoring our past. We are building our future. The introduction of the parade marks a new chapter, one defined by growth, visibility, and continued impact.
This moment belongs to everyone who has supported, volunteered, partnered, and shown up over the years. It belongs to the community that continues to believe in what Pride represents.
And most importantly, it belongs to the next generation who will carry this work forward.
Greensboro Pride is evolving. Our community is growing. And together, we are making history.
